Speciality Teas

Black Teas
Black teas can be simply classified as any which are fully fermented during their processing, yielding a higher caffeine level and fuller flavour. They vary widely in strength, style and flavour and can be easily scented to create flavoured teas.

Homewood House Blend
A classic blend of orthodox teas from the top estates in Ceylon, using only leaves grown above 2000ft to ensure a complex, well-rounded and aromatic flavour. Our everyday tea, we recommend drinking it without milk.

Organic Darjeeling Ambootia 2nd Flush
Light, fresh, aromatic and classically Darjeeling; the Ambootia estate was one of the first to go organic in that region and now produces some of the most reliably excellent teas in the province. Hints of fruit and late summer hay on the nose, the refreshing flavour lingers in the mouth suggestively. Thought to be at its best without milk.

Earl Grey with blue flowers
A soft and soothing version of the classic Earl Grey tea; here a Chinese black tea is enlivened through the flavour of Bergamot then tempered by the addition of cornflowers for a smooth finish. Perfect at any time, with or without milk.

Lapsang Souchong
The smoky one! A larger leaf is generally used for lapsang souchong because of the need for a fuller flavour to compete with the added smokiness: here, large leaves from central China and the level of smoke are carefully balanced so as not to be too strong for those preferring to drink it without milk.

Oolong Tea
Where black teas are strongly oxidised to produce a full flavour, and green teas are left unoxidised to preserve their light fresh flavours, oolong teas are somewhere in-between, varying from the earthy and mysterious through to the lively and aromatic. It is reputed that such teas have great health benefits too.

Fruchtetraum Dream of Fruits
Hearty and fruity, imported from Germany, this beautifully balanced mixture of fruit flavours, offers a unique and refreshing drinking experience. Drink without milk.

Chamomile Flowers
The sweet, honeyed flavour of chamomile is best achieved using whole flower heads: relaxing and caffeine free.

Peppermint leaves
Enjoy the zingy refreshment of coarse cut peppermint leaves, as they release their natural oils upon brewing.

Organic Rooibos (South Africa)
Grown only in the Cederberg Mountains of the South Western Cape of South Africa, this Organic Rooibos has a delicious warm, sweet flavour, with natural hints of caramel. Naturally caffeine free it is delicious with or without milk.

Imperial Grade Oolong, Vietnam
Light, sweet and refreshing, this top oolong tea from the Vietnamese mountains is not only a rare find, but furthermore a delicious discovery for anyone not familiar with this part-oxidised style.

Green teas
Green teas have been enjoying a resurgence of popularity in recent years, but those in the know have been enjoying the finest green leaf teas for much longer. Here we present some of the best and rarest.

China Bi Luo Chun (lit. ‘Green Spring Snail’)
Grown on the misty slopes of Wuxi, near the famous Ling Yuan temple, this rare tea is one of China’s best. The tea is inter-planted with fruit trees, and it is said that this gives the tea its characteristic fruity flavour. Lively and vibrant in flavour and colour, this easy-drinking green tea leaves you feeling cleansed and refreshed.

Genmaicha
Greatly popular in Japan, this mid-strength Japanese green sencha is given a crisp, burnt flavour through the addition of roasted wholemeal rice. Best taken without milk, this tea makes a good accompaniment to food.
