Four Reasons Why You Should Visit Bath This January

Thinking of destinations that demonstrate remarkable history and culture, as well as only the very best luxury hotels? Bath certainly tops the list in our humble opinion.

As one of the most luxurious hotel’s Bath has to offer, we have compiled a varied and informative list to help you plan your stay; after all, from orchestras to rugby, galleries to tours, there is plenty going on in Bath this January to entice you to the beautiful city.

West of England Youth Orchestra

Wiltshire Music Centre will host some of the finest youngest musicians in the South West on the 1st and 2nd January. Marking the centenary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth, you can expect to hear Bernstein’s Candide Overture and West Side Story (Medley), a well as Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture. There will also be a selection of songs made famous by Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack. Tickets are £15 per adult or £9 for under 18s and students.

Victoria Art Gallery Curator Tours

The 10th January will see Victoria Art Gallery offer Collection Highlight Tours with Dr Chris Davies. Here you can learn more about the stories of the most popular pieces of the collection. On 17th January, the gallery will also offer a guided tour from a curator where the public can explore more of the permanent collection that is kept in the art stores. Again, these sessions are free and a rare chance to see the treasures kept in the gallery, so booking is essential. If you want to further the decadence and heritage after your tour, Homewood stands out above all other hotels. Bath is a city that offers beauty and history – make sure that where you stay offers the same experience too!

Seurat to Riley: The Art of Perception

The Holburne Museum’s latest exhibition will see visitors journey back through the history of art for the past 150 years. An impressive scope of work, you will be able to learn more about how artists were inspired by scientific colour theories, as well as the incredible tricks of Pointillism where many colours are not actually on the canvas, but created by the eye of the viewer. Art and perception go hand in hand – discover a whole new realm through the exploration of work by artists from the Vorticists and Josef Albers to Kinetic Art, Peter Sedgley and Sara Moorhouse. Tickets cost £10 per adult or £9 concession.

Bath Rugby vs Newcastle Fallons

On 27th January you can head to The Rec to watch the beloved Bath Rugby team take on the Newcastle Fallons. This game won’t be televised, so if you’re a fan of the sport this is a great chance to see the two teams go head to head. Wrap up warm and after the match you can head into the city centre to browse the shops, see the sights and grab a cup of coffee before heading back to one of the most renowned luxury hotels Bath has ever seen – here at Homewood our staff are ready to serve you a decadent meal.
