How to mix things up at your Cocktail Reception
Looking for inspiration for your wedding? Bath offers the best of the old and the new.
Here at Homewood, we know what goes into making your wedding yours. Read on for our tips on how to mix things up at your cocktail reception, courtesy of our Wedding Co-ordinator, Michaela Crouch.
A Cocktail Reception vs A Sit-Down Reception
Why host a sit-down dinner when you can have a cocktail wedding reception? Every couple will have their own preferences, but Cocktail Receptions are certainly seeing a boost in popularity and it is not hard to see why. With event spaces like those you can find at Homewood Park, there is nothing chicer than seeing your guests chatting with a cocktail in hand. You’d be forgiven for thinking that Homewood was made solely for such an occasion.
An alternative to the traditional sit-down reception, a Cocktail Reception can help cut costs and encourage your guests to interact. As this is a more informal affair, be sure to let your guests know that you will be hosting a Cocktail Reception followed by your cake otherwise they might still expect a traditional dinner! I recommend opting for an appetizer and hors d’oeuvres station, as opposed to waiters. This lets your guests enjoy their drinks, eat when they wish to and mingle. Don’t forget to still arrange seating! Mix up your options with high and low seating to suit all your guests’ needs.
Cocktails instead of Prosecco
A glass of Prosecco has fast become the drink of choice for couples to give their guests at weddings – it works all seasons and is cheaper than champagne, but why not mix things up? If you are going to have a dedicated Cocktail Reception, in addition to Prosecco for the toasts why not offer your guests some customised or classic cocktails…
We believe that they encourage personality – cocktails are a big thing for modern weddings and massively on trend for those couples who want to add a touch of something different to their big day. Our bar team are always itching to show off their talent, and you know what they say, there is a cocktail for every occasion!
Our Food & beverage Manager Stefanel Vieru is a trained mixologist along with other members of our team, and they take great delight in creating personalised cocktails for guests. Within our platinum wedding package we offer couples the
option to select a cocktail for their reception drink and even for the speeches! If you really want to impress, why not have a dedicated area at the bar solely for creating and trying new cocktails?
Cocktails undoubtedly vary from person to person due to taste. Here are a few of our favourites that you can try, and some more tips…
Give guests a classic such as an Aperol Spritz that contains prosecco, orange and soda or a French Kiss, the ingredients for which you will find below. Alternatively, you can have the team create a personalised cocktail that represents you as a couple. After the wedding breakfast when teas and coffees are traditionally served, treat your guests to an indulgent and creamy pick me up with a scrumptious Espresso Martini – each sip will regale your guests thanks to the vodka, Kahlua, triple sec and coffee!
How to make a French Kiss
Oh, la la! For the French kiss, we shake 10ml of grenadine (strawberry) with 10ml of elderflower cordial. We then add 10 ml of fresh lime juice and shot of gin. We pour this delicious mixture into a champagne glass and top up with prosecco. The glass is then covered in sugar on the exterior and garnished with a slice of lime or strawberry. Let us know if you try this for yourself, and be sure to tag us on social media, we would love to see!
