Bath Christmas Market: Our Top Picks
Homewood Park’s Guide to Finding That Perfect Christmas Gift
Bath’s Christmas Market is an annual treasure, drawing crowds from far and wide. Popping up in the heart of the city every November, the market truly is a spectacle to behold. With over 170 little wooden stalls doused in twinkly lights and all of the toasty warm smells of Christmas, there’s not a lot you could add to make it any more magical. With so many amazing local and talented makers and producers selling their wares, the market can be a little overwhelming, so here at Homewood we have distilled all of the festive goodness down to a few outstanding essentials that we think you simply must swing by. So grab a steaming hot cup of mulled wine and get browsing…
Not so very far from Homewood’s Somerset home of Freshford, you can find the wonderful Wraxall Vineyard who produce a mouth-watering variety of English still and sparkling wines:
“Wraxall Vineyard lies on a beautiful warm south-facing slope which is situated between the Mendip and Quantock Hills in Somerset. It is the perfect location for growing a variety of grapes that capture the very essence of English Wine.”
To take home a taste of the West Country with you after your stay at one of the finest hotels in Bath, it’s definitely worth grabbing a bottle of Wraxall’s Somerset Sparkling Wine, or Pinot Noir Rosé at their market stall.
Another local gem, Heaven Scent is a Wiltshire based producer of hand poured scented candles. The company aim to always use ingredients which are as natural as possible, with no parabens, no sulphates and no harsh chemicals. All materials are sustainably and responsibly sourced and all products are vegan and cruelty free. On top of all of this wholesome goodness, the candles smell amazing! With delectable scents such as Saffron, Red Rose and Vetiver, Limeleaf and Ginger and Gold Frankincense and Myrrh, Heaven Scent’s candles will make the perfect locally sourced Christmas gift.
Thanks to the expert and dedicated mixologists at the Bath Gin Company, the first gin distillery to grace the streets if Bath in over 250yrs will be opening very soon! Stills all over the city of Bath were effectively stopped by The Gin Act of 1751 and haven’t been seen since…. History aside, a bottle of the distinctive Bath Gin is a great (not to mention delicious) way to commemorate your visit to the beautiful city.
Yet another West Country favourite- Cheddar cheese! Cheddar has long since been a Somerset staple and you’d be fool not to try some of the genuine local stuff. The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Co. have been producing delicious Cheddar in the gorge for years and it truly is a taste to remember. Whether as a whiffy gift, or a treat for yourself- this is definitely not a stall worth missing.
For something a little different, how about this Bath based wonder? Henny & Joe’s is the proud purveyor of utterly delicious (and 100% natural) chai:
“Using traditional methods of decoction, our recipe is created from a blend of aromatic whole spices: cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, allspice, vanilla, star anise, nutmeg, fennel seed, mixed spice, sugar, water and nothing else.”
The deliciously spicy concoction is the perfect winter warmer and can be used in hot drinks, baking and even cocktails! You can check out Henny & Joe’s top recipes here.
Now for something truly Christmassy- a traditional Christmas pudding! But not any old Christmas pudding:
“Plum Duff & Stuff homemade Christmas puddings are based on an English nineteenth century family recipe. The plum puddings are handmade, steamed for eight hours in ceramic bowls and then wrapped in calico ready for warming up and serving.”
All of Plum Duff & Stuff’s puddings are dairy free and there are gluten and wheat free versions too- something for everyone! What better Christmas treat to pick up at the market than a delicious, traditional plum duff?
